I've been a transformers fan all my life, and I've been waiting for the movie to come out for quite some time now. With a big summer blockbuster usually comes a game based on said movie. Transformers is no exception. I was really hoping for a stellar game, but, like most games based of their movie counter-parts, this game fell flat.
It has a cool intro video that explains the game. The transformers come to earth looking for the Allspark, the source of where all transformers originated. You get the option to play either as the Decepticons or the Autobots. The Decepticons want to destroy everything and rule the universe where as the Autobots want peace for the universe.
Choosing either side doesn't really matter, as the missions are all pretty much the same. You run around, blow stuff up and then fight some robots from the other side.
The graphics are well done in this game. My big problems with this game are the gameplay and controls.
The gameplay might be better if the controls were better, but not by much. The missions are all very repetitive , so its not like there is whole lot to really accomplish. However, there is some free roam element to the game. It is a bit like GTA, yet you can't kill people. You have a giant plasma cannon aimed at them yet you can't kill them...sad. You can blow up almost anything else, but you can't demolish a house or trees to get around it. The trees really irritated me because you can't blow them up and they got in the way so much. The free roam get boring after a while, even with cops chasing you, because what is there to do?
you can only blow so much up.
The controls were the biggest disappointment. They were just bad. everything was all jumbled up, the camera was bad so half the time you were looking in the opposite direction you wanted to be, and the controls made it near impossible to have any real fun with the game.
All in all, this game is a real let down to me, not only as a transformers fan, but also as a gamer wanting to play a game. I don't know what they were thinking when they designed the controls. Anyone with half a brain could have made the controls better. Save your money, don't bother with this game unless you want to blow stuff up and not even have the feeling that you just blew stuff up.
Total score: 3/10
