Hi haze here. this isn't the final review of the game, just my current impressions of it, also some tips for actual play *Note* When the game starts up, it will check if you have the latest wii firmware version, if not (and even if you do) it will preform a quick, 10 second wii update. The manual says its manditory to play the game. I guess it makes some of the features useable?
Intro: Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. Originally slated as a Wii launch title, was pushed back to January of 07, then to Aug 20th /07, and the finally to August 27th 07 (technically Aug 28th but whatever). And finaly, the last installment of the metroid prime serise (I put emphasis on the prime serise, becasue the we have the metroid serise, and the metroid prime serise, baisically a serise within a serise) Its kinda like the sonic adventure game serise in retro spec, it was a continuation of games, with a set chronological order, in franchises.
First Impressions: Now i only got the game yesterday (August 28th) so dont expect me to divulge on many, if any specifics of the game, im just going to review baisic gameplay, some tips, and a little time on the overall presentation.
First off. The Presentation. The presentation of this game is very well done. The used the appropriate theme of a "virus bacterai" in the background, giving the game a dark, yet homely title screen, with appropriate colours and tones, the presentation of the title screen is very well done. Its easy to navigate, and it just flows with the main idea of the game. The graphics are very Nice, I have posted some (not very good, but some) screen shots of the game on the main redesigned site, and they hardly serve the game justice. Running in a 16:9 480p presentation, the visuals are crisp and clear, as well, this game is probably one of the best, if not the best, looking wii games out there. The Presentation is very Well Done.
Now on to the Gameplay. It also is ver well done, the best "Shooter" Wii game out there. The controlls are solid, not too loose, not to taught, but perfect. The precision is excellent, it brought me back to the fun days of redsteel, with the accuracy(but better accuracy then redsteel) and the abillity to shoot your enemies percisely, almost never missing, and for the times where you have only seconds to react by shooting something or turning around, the wii remote executed it perfectly, making it possible to be, what i call, a sharp shooter. the controlls are pretty baisic, you have the option of using the default wii-mote settings (A as shoot, B as jump) or the inverted (B as shoot, A as jump). I choose the latter, the inverted controlls, for it feels more natural to me personally. The only blemish, that doesn't happen often though, is that at doors sometimes, you may notice that they take a while to open, like 5-10 seconds, thats just becasue the game is preloading the room and other areas. But other than that, the game just overall, plays well. Excellent Job Retro!
Tips. Now I havn't gotten extreamly far in the game yet (I'm about 20% completed) but here are some tips.
Tip 1- Scan everything. Even when in combat, Scan First then attack. Why? Becasue there are things that you can unlock using the ingame "acheivement" points, you'll get a red(most common) Green(every so oftehn) blue(uncommon) and yellow( only when you beat boss's, so far that i've seen) even the boss' scan, becasue you get points for it. so just trust me. SCAN EVERYTHING
Tip 2- Sidestep. When you use this, you press and hold the Z button on the nunchuck, the move the analoge stick either left or right, the tap A. you'll go a quick side step, very usefull for fighting enimies, for if you do it enough, you'll confuse them and then get several hits in. and for boss'. For the Third boss, this is very usefull! to dodge one of his "chilling" attacks. ( if you understand the hint in my word play...Good for you )
Tip 3- The morphball. Very usefull in Boss Battle 3 (seeing as how i've only just gotten past that) The Boss will start throwing things at you. Now, the projectiles aren't very hard to dodge, its just the obsticles on the battle field, that are annoying. so, enter the morphball, and roll around, keeping sight of the boss at all time, (keep in mind he will lose you at times, it can't be avoided, just try and locate him again.) he'll try about 2-4 vollys of throwing projectiles, but, keep in mind, if you choose to stay in the morphball, DON'T exit it untill he is done that attack, you'll just get hurt. You could also just use the side step, and continuously shoot at him.
Tip 3.5- Sill on boss 3. Heres a hint. Don't waste you missiles on him, or your phazon right away, because his armour makes hime impevious to attacks, so just use the stock arm cannon. keep fireing untill he looks kinda dropy, and isn't attacking, the grapple his armour, then go beserk on him! ( keep in mind, the he can still block some of your attacks (so fire right when you get it off, then fire a stock arm cannon charged blast, the continue with your assut, but beaware that he has a sweeping attack, which however is easyly avoided with the site step, and that the pillers(obsticles) in the area make things bounce off them, so be carefull not to make something riccoche off a piller and hit your self (very unlikely, but hey, you've been warned).
tip 4- boss 4. Okay well, this guy is pretty easy to defeat, however is just extreamly annoying. He gets the 4 red ball things, two for his shoulder, one for his stomach, and one for his back, to protect his emmiting phazon energy. Okay, baisically you just have to hit the red shells with you're reglar arm cannon, then when the the shell breaks off ( you'll know you're hitting it becasue you'll see red shards falling off) you'll see a bright emitting light come out. Shoot it in hypermode, and when the phazon explodes, it'll ignite. When that happens he gets kinda upset. and will try a charging attack, which really isnt hard to avoid, but before charging, he'll absorb phazon in his feet, all you have to do is go into the morph ball, after he tries to charge at you (you'll have about 5 seconds to do this, so be quick, but carefull) and drop all three bombs, and it'll break off the phazon around his foot, the repeat for the other foot *note* if he runs into you, or you run into him, it'll do a tonn of damage, so try to avoid contact as much as possible. Just keep repeating this attack pattern and he'll be defeated. He has a few attacks for you to watch out for. He has a shockwave attack, just jump to avoid it. He has a "sweeping attack" with a beam from his mouth, its really easy to dodge, just jump to avoid it. He well at times stamp one foot to send a pulse through the ground in one, linear motion, this attack is ridiculously easy to dodge. Some times he will shoot "hands" from his hands, to get more red balls to regenerate. Just shoot his hands, for one, to stop him from regenerating, and to get health back. He will also use an attack that will drop platforms down on you. Medium difficulty to avoid, but still not to hard. I recomend you destroy the three of the front and save the one in the back for last. just keep repeatinf your offense, and you'll defeat him in no time.
I'll add more as stuff later, but right now, i Shall play corruption. i hope you enjoyed reading this, and that you find some of my tips usefull
